My students need two guitars and one bass guitar, cords and straps so we can develop their rock skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With deeper and deeper cuts in electives, our school is striving to build a music program that captures the passions of the students. We are developing kids who want to sing, dance, play an instrument and ROCK! We have the interest, talent and time ... all we need is guitars.

This is a middle school in Southern California.

Our school budget is slashed to $0 this year. We have great students at our school with wonderful dreams and ambitions. Music is a huge motivator which keep many students in school. The school is a Title One school, which means we have some economic challenges.

My Project

Our school is the only one in the district that offers this type of class. "Rock Band" is made up of the following; guitar, bass, piano, drums (full set), alto sax, tenor sax, trumpets (3), trombones/baritone (2), singer. The music this group performs ranges from modern rock to early surf rock. All the students begin with learning to play the blues. They learn about the structure and history of the music they are performing...but most of all they love to rock!!! Students suggest the repertoire, work on the arrangements, and see what its like to be in a band.

The things I learned from my experience in music in school are discipline, perseverance, dependability, pride and teamwork.

. . these are the qualities we want in our kids, peers, and those representing us in the workforce and government. This program keeps students engaged in learning and involved in their school. This music program is very important and needs your help.
