Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students speak a second language at home and struggle to learn English well enough to be proficient in their studies. They are smart kids who need a little motivation and some extra support to achieve their goals.

These kids want to learn!

My students and I are in California's Central Valley. Some of their families are former migrant workers who have settled in to our small town. Others have lived here for many years. Regardless of their family history, all of the students I work with speak more than one language. They work hard to succeed, even though the 6 hours they spend at school may be the only time during the day that they practice the English language.

My Project

- We will be able to complete projects in which we interview each other, perform through a Reader's Theater, and sometimes simply tell a story that can be watched later. Using a camcorder to listen to ourselves speak is a powerful medium we can use to perfect our speech. At other times we can use the video camera to assess student learning of new vocabulary as they 'act out' what they have learned!

Technology is no longer the wave of the future.

Technology is the here and now. With technology, student achievement will increase because the students are motivated to work hard. We need them to succeed, and they want to succeed. They want to share what they are learning with their families. With a video camera and media storage card, we can do that and so much more.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
