My students need a pencil sharpener and hands on math manipulatives to enhance their understanding of mathematical concepts, especially place value.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like learning place value and fractions? Yeah, it was tough, we need learning tools to help us!

I teach a highly motivated group of third graders!

They are excited about learning and always try their best when learning new concepts. I have a diverse group of students who learn in many different ways and at different paces. We don't always have all of the supplies and materials present at our school to make this happen, or the money to go out and purchase them.

My Project

I am requesting a few hands on materials that will enhance my students' understanding on place value and fraction concepts, both of which can be tricky for students to comprehend. The magnetic base ten blocks and fraction tiles will allow me to easily demonstrate examples on the whiteboard students will be able to see and mimic with their own manipulatives. I will also be able to leave the examples hanging on the whiteboard while I circulate through the classroom to monitor student understanding and answer questions. The place value flip chart will me to provide multiple examples for students to follow in an organized manner, with all place values clearly labeled. The pencil sharpener will provide a quick solution for students to prepare their materials for the math lesson, making the most of our valuable class time.

All of these materials together will provide my students the opportunity to build an understanding of place value and fraction concepts, which will continually be built upon in years to come, as opposed to simply memorizing rules.
