This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Let's talk about books! Currently, approximately 90% of the books in my classroom library were published before 1995. Any new books in the library were purchased with my own funds. When my student's approached me about starting book clubs, I realized we would need help to make this possible!
Many of my students do not have the means to purchase books on their own.
At the end of last year, I purchased two copies of "The Hunger Games" and they were read by 6 students in only a month! They love new, hot books, but right now they don't have many. They want to be able to get one another excited about books and form these clubs on their own to discuss them!
My Project
The books I've requested are a virtual "what's hot" in young adult literature right now. These books are designed to show students today that they don't have to go home and play video games or watch TV, these books are just as fun! Examples include "The Hunger Games" series, "The Book Thief" and "Hush, Hush."
These donations will make a difference because it is coming directly from the students, for the students.
They want to be able to start the year excited about reading. It would be so disheartening not to be able to cultivate this enthusiasm. Thank you in advance to all contributors. Every little bit helps!
