Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students don't realize that authors have written amazing books of great literary merit in the 21st Century.

The majority of my students fall well below the poverty line and almost all of them speak English as a second language.

These students struggle for life's necessities and have very little or no room to purchase books beyond what they can attain at school.

My Project

To motivate my students to get in the habit of reading for pleasure, I would like to create a classroom library with books that aren't found in our very sparse, out-dated library. Research proves that students who read at least 25 books per year, beyond class requirements, increase both their vocabulary and comprehension skills exponentially. I would like to encourage my students to be not only better readers but life- long learners who read simply for pleasure by offering them a selection of high interest, modern literature on a variety of subjects and themes.

There is no greater vehicle into the world than a book.

Being able to look into the lives of others gives a new point of view that fosters empathy and compassion for the human experience. All of the books offer a unique insight into the world and represent an amazing cross section of award winning authors. Having this classroom library available for my students will encourage them to read outside of class and enrich both their lives and their continuing education.
