Thanks to your kindness, our students received brand new volleyballs that have brought so much joy and learning to our physical education classes. While the hula hoops from the original project were unfortunately out of stock, our school was able to purchase them separately, allowing us to bring the complete vision of this project to life. Your contribution made it possible for our students to engage in meaningful, active learning experiences that they will remember for years to come.\r\n\r\nOur classes have been having an amazing time with the Ball Hoop Toss activity, which combines the volleyballs you provided with the hula hoops in a challenging and exciting way. In this activity, partners work together to simultaneously toss and catch a hula hoop while also tossing a volleyball through that hoop, aiming for successful exchanges. The smiles on our students' faces as they master the timing and coordination required are priceless! What makes this activity so special is that it goes beyond just physical skills—it requires students to communicate clearly with their partners, problem-solve together, and support each other through trial and error.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given our students more than just equipment; you've given them opportunities to develop crucial cooperative skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of working together toward a common goal. Right now the students are getting a feel for the basics and soon we will start to talk strategy for both singles and doubles. The gym was full of smiles and laughter for the entire period.\r\nAt the end of each period I had more than one student come to me and ask when we would be playing badminton again. As the students continue to practice the game we will start to have more serious competitions and even a tournament with a prize. \r\nIn the next week we will also start meeting at lunch for Badminton Club. This gives students the opportunity to come play badminton even if they are not in my PE class. They can take extra swings, perfect their timing, and build confidence, all while getting more reps in. With the new bats, our players will be able to get a better feel for the game, helping them to improve their hitting power and consistency. The baseballs will ensure that each player has access to top-quality balls for drills and games, helping them refine their catching, throwing, and fielding skills. Finally, the batting tees will allow our players to focus on the fundamentals of hitting, working on their stance, swing mechanics, and hand-eye coordination.\r\nAll of this equipment will help our players improve in every aspect of the game, giving them the tools they need to perform at their best and have a great time while doing it. I carefully selected a list of popular novels often read in high school, built calendars with check-in dates, and reached out to families so they knew I would be supporting their children through this journey. While I am a strong advocate for technology, I also believe deeply in the timeless power of reading, and I wanted this first semester to show my students just how meaningful and rewarding it can be.\r\n\r\nThe second phase of the project involved creating a welcoming classroom space where students could take turns reading in comfort, surrounded by an atmosphere that celebrates books. With your support, this vision came to life, and my students were in awe on the very first day when they saw a dedicated area designed to nurture their independence and love for reading. Whether you're a parent, a fellow educator, or a kind stranger, your donation made a real, tangible difference for my students. When I let them know the VEX field and game elements had arrived, their excitement was instant and even though we're still on summer break, several of them came in right away to unpack the kits, assemble the field components, and begin testing one of their robots. As the photos show, they dove right into hands-on problem solving. \r\nThis is the first year that our robotics teams have ever been able to start practicing before the school year begins, something that's been a big advantage for teams from more established or better-funded programs. Now our students are entering the season on equal footing, with time to refine their designs and develop strategies before the tournaments begin.\r\nI also want to extend a special thank you to the Child Mind Institute, whose generous contribution via DonorsChoose gift cards, helped bring these essential robotics materials to our teams. We're also grateful for their work promoting student mental health with tools like their Mirror: Mental Health Journal app.\r\nFrom all of us, thank you for believing in my students. This platform gives them a huge bank of practice questions modeled after the AP Exam, but what really stands out is how it explains each answer in detail. It's like they've each got a wise, patient tutor tucked into their browser. For students who don't usually have access to expensive test prep resources, this has been a game-changer. They're getting the kind of focused, self-guided practice that helps them learn from mistakes and build real skills.\r\n\r\nWhat my students love most is how Albert puts their progress front and center. They can track how they're doing in different topic areas, and many of them have started setting little goals for themselves—trying to bump their accuracy up a few points each week. It's not uncommon now to see them hunched over their screens at lunch or after class, excited to \"level up.\" Some even said it felt like a game, which for teenagers, is high praise! And best of all, it's helping them feel more prepared—and less intimidated—as the big test day approaches.\r\n\r\nThere are so many individual wins, too. One student, Marisol, told me Albert makes her feel like she's not guessing anymore—she actually understands the reasoning behind her answers. Another, David, says it helped him learn how to \"think like a computer scientist,\" which I thought was pretty spot-on. These are students who dream of being the first in their families to go to college, and because of you, they're one step closer. It's like having a personal tutor that never gets tired. For many of my students, this is their first time using a resource that's truly designed for self-paced, independent learning. And let me tell you, they're rising to the challenge!\r\n\r\nThe most exciting thing for my students is that they can see their growth in real time. The platform shows them how they're doing by topic, so they know where they're strong and where they need a little more elbow grease. A few of them even got a little too excited when they realized they could compete with themselves to improve their scores every day. I've caught kids staying after school, huddled over their Chromebooks, cheering when they get a tough question right. And yes—some have even logged in over the weekend (voluntarily!) to get in a few extra rounds of practice.\r\n\r\nOne student, Jennifer, told me she likes Albert because it \"talks to her\" like a person—not just right or wrong, but explaining why an answer makes sense. Jennifer's the first in her family to take an AP class, and watching her confidence grow has been one of my favorite things this year. Another student, Eduardo, said using Albert made the test feel \"less scary\" and helped him figure out how to approach tricky questions. These little victories are building momentum, and I can already tell my students are walking a little taller, believing they can pass that exam and earn college credit.
