My Students

While shopping for my own daughter's supplies, I wondered how many of my students would arrive, this year, without the tools they need to learn.

I teach 9th grade Language Arts Literacy in an urban high school.

Each year I have students who arrive to my class with no school supplies. Students who arrive with at least a notebook and pencil have nothing by mid year. When supplies run out, my students ask me for help. Unfortunately, I don't have enough for everyone. My students want to succeed, unfortunately they don't have the tools to make success happen.

My Project

My students use wire bound index cards to create on going vocabulary logs. They create writing portfolios each year that showcase their best essays and serve as a tool to reflect on areas of growth. Because we recycle class novels, my students use sticky notes while reading to jot down feelings toward the text and question the author. Without binders, sticky notes, and index cards these learning scenarios cannot take place.

A donation of school supplies will truly inspire my students.

It will show them that even in times in hardship, there are always generous people willing to step up for education. Your donation will help make sure my students stay on the road to academic success.
