My Students

Can you imagine riding a school bus when the temperatures are over 100 degrees in the afternoon? That is what many of my students face each day.

My fifth and sixth grade students live in South Georgia where temperatures are often in the high 90s to low 100s each day.

My students are not only active in school but also extracurricular activities. We are identified as a "high poverty" public school but we do not let that slow us down. We have big dreams and work hard to reach them.

My Project

I am requesting 95 water bottles for my students. After reading the FEED USA ideas, I realized that this would be a perfect project for my students. I watch my students come in each day from their PE classes needing water to drink. A few have purchased water bottles and some are reusing water bottles from the store, but most do not have anything. I believe that these water bottles would help my students keep hydrated during outside activities and their rides home. The bottles will also provide a way for them to remain hydrated during class time. It has been proved that frequent hydration increases a student's attention and learning. When temperatures are as high as they are now in the South, then the increase has to be astronomical.

I often worry that my students do not understand the importance of water to their health.

These water bottles will provide a source of cool, clean water to my students throughout the day. It is hoped that other students will follow their example to keep their brains hydrated throughout the day.
