My Students

Let's continue to read! Whether it's independently reading, reading aloud with a friend, or listening to an audio book my students want to create a world from their books. I want to give them a chance to do exactly that!

We are a loving bunch of wacky 26 5th graders.

I had the pleasure of teaching these kids as 4th graders as well. They LOVE to read. Even when they have a moment to escape to recess, they somehow find a place to dive into their chapter books. Our community is considered low income, where families work 2 or more jobs a day. We also encompass many multicultural backgrounds such as Russian, Hispanic, Laotian, and Vietnamese. Our school is also quite amazing! We have an after school programs that consists of fun games while supporting students who need an extra boost in their academics.

My Project

During our literacy block we do a lot of various types of reading: read to self, read with someone, work on writing just to name a few. In addition there is also listening. Without earphones there isn't much listening to do with their audio books. Listening also helps students who are not native English speakers. These audio books provide them another outlet to grasp those hard words they haven't mastered yet.

I can't tell you how important listening to books are to my students.

They really love to read. Considering many of my students are not native English speakers, I know providing them these materials will help boost their confidence in their speaking and listening abilities.
