It really allowed our class to send 2025 out with a bang and to look forward to a bright and joyous 2026.\r\n\r\nWorking within some specific design constraints, the students used the inventor maker kits and some leftover cardboard boxes from our school's cafeteria to craft whimsical vehicles of the imagination that carried at least 6 passengers and promoted a positive message for the new year. They were expected to try to use as many of the provided craft materials as they could within the 90 minute time limit.\r\n\r\nLet me just say that they had an absolute blast. Having access to their own instruments allows students to develop foundational skills in reading music, rhythm, and pitch in hands-on and engaging ways. With their recorders, they're able to explore music independently and as part of a group which deepens their musical literacy and builds confidence. One of the most exciting outcomes of this opportunity is that our students will be performing with the Oregon Symphony, an unforgettable experience that further inspires their passion and shows them the power of music in a professional setting.\r\n\r\nIntroducing recorders at the elementary level also helps students transition more smoothly into middle school band programs. With a solid grasp of basic technique and musical concepts, they are better prepared to pick up more complex instruments and succeed in future music endeavors. Beyond musical skills, learning recorder fosters important life skills, such as teamwork, self-discipline, and perseverance. Students learn to listen, blend, and work together toward a common goal -skills that are valuable both inside and outside of the classroom. This generous donation has truly opened the door to lasting educational and personal growth for each of my students.
