My Students

The future is here! My students are learning to be the next great thinkers of the world. They are learning to read, think, and respond to their reading. It's not just words on a page, but life experiences bound together!

My students are a creative, intelligent group of high ability learners.

They read voraciously and need assistance learning to use their life experiences and the skills I will teach them and apply them to the texts that they read. Indiana provides educational environments for high ability students similar to special needs students. These boys and girls need rich experiences with text to apply their new skills.

My Project

Each day, my students gather around for a lesson in metacognition, inferencing, questioning, and many other lessons. Picture books lend themselves to all levels of students to model and practice these new skills. The students then get the opportunity to go to their special place in the classroom to read a book of their choice and practice these skills by recording them in their reading log. Daily, I meet with these students to confer with them to be better readers and thinkers.

Having these books and materials in the classroom will ensure that the students of my classroom do not have to wait until another day when another teacher is finished with the one copy in the building.

Nor will they have to wait while the public library gets a copy for us to use. They will always be ready for us to use, learn from, and enjoy
