I see each class for 40 minutes 4-5 a month and I have very little time to adjust and set up the room for each class. The students learn how to respect and transition our space as well and these stools allow use to transition much quicker. As a result, we have been able to spend even more time playing drums, singing songs, and learning dances!\r\n\r\nAdditionally, I was able to purchase the books \"Old Joe Clark,\" \"Had a Little Rooster,\" and \"Movement Exploration.\" My kindergartners absolute love \"Had a Little Rooster!\" I sing the song at the end of class and the kids have greatly enjoyed having a book to go along with it! The third graders just discovered \"Old Joe Clark\" and loved the crazy characters and \"Movement Exploration\" has given me great activities to get the kids moving even more!\r\n\r\nThank you for your generosity and allowing your love of music to be shared with my students, myself, and my classroom. It's been an incredible tool for encouraging collaboration and confidence.\r\n\r\nThank you so much to the generous donors who made this possible! I was in disbelief. One of my coworkers had said it was a pretty easy process to request funding for a project from Donors Choose, but I really didn't think it would happen. What I mean to say, is that I'm not usually one who wins or gets chosen for things. I am so very glad I took a chance for the students of Brookview Elementary School.\r\n\r\nAt the beginning of the school year, I surveyed the students about what types of things they'd like to learn about most in STEM class this year, outside of our Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum. Most of them responded with engineering or activities where they would get to build, or robotics and coding activities. That's when I started our wish list and found out about Donors Choose. I created two projects. One was for engineering materials and the other for robots and coding materials.\r\n\r\nAs the STEM teacher at Brookview, I serve the entire student body. Therefore, the project will reach more than five hundred K-4th grade students. I chose the Sphero Bolt and the Code and Go Robot Mouse for the project, Ready for Robots, because they are sturdy and easier to control than other robots I've used. \r\n\r\nAfter I submitted the projects, I told the students about them. They said things like, \"You really asked for the things we told you about?\". I told them, of course, that's why I asked you guys! I told them to cross their fingers for the projects to be funded, and that I would keep them posted. They were so excited. Some of them would as?\" or they'd say, \"I have my fingers crossed!\".\r\n\r\nWhen I found out that the project had been funded, I announced it at the beginning of class. The kids were ecstatic! Since we were in the middle of our PLTW curriculum, I told them that we would have our first opportunity to use the robots as a reward for finishing our projects. That really motivated them to stay on task!\r\n\r\nWhen the big day came, I projected \"Congratulations! You class has earned a Robot Day!\" on the screen. When they saw it from the hallway coming in, they couldn't contain themselves. I almost cried. I had set the room up with stations for groups of students to use. I told them that they would be driving the Sphero robot through an obstacle course and driving it back to where it started - doing some basic driving of the robots or getting to know them in a way. I showed them how to connect the Sphero Bolts to the iPad application, Sphero Edu, how to \"aim\" them using the app, how to adjust the color and speed, etc.\r\n\r\nI had them come over to the stations by table. As I walked around the room checking to see if they needed help or had questions, they took turns driving the Spheros. It was amazing! I watched them change the Sphero to their favorite color, aim it, and try to navigate the obstacle course. Some of them were laughing as they were having trouble controlling it around corners. They quickly learned that the speed of the robot affected how easy or difficult it was to navigate the course.\r\n\r\nThe Kindergarteners were the first to use the Code and Go Robot Mouse sets. Again, we waited for our projects for PLTW to be completed. They learned how to do the basic programming of Colby, the mouse. They learned how to move him forward, backward, left, and right, to get him to the cheese. The students would giggle and squeal with excitement when they did the programming correctly and Colby lit up and made his little noise after getting to the cheese. It was wonderful!\r\n\r\nThank you Warren Arts & Education Foundation and The Gates Foundation so much for funding \"Ready for Robots\" for Brookview Elementary School. The students were overjoyed! It certainly had a positive impact in my STEM class, and will continue to do so.","fullyFundedDate":1723685841816,"projectUrl":"project/ready-for-robots/8531743/","projectTitle":"Ready for Robots!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gain","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9615712_orig.jpg?crop=481,481,x0,y33&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722429912615","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9615712"},{"teacherId":9126990,"projectId":9079606,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations to our classroom.
