My Students

Have you every had a song or jingle stuck in your head? First graders learn so much through educational music and we want those songs to be stuck in their heads.

My students come from all walks of life, but the majority of them come from a poverty situation.

Music is an escape for many people and it is a wonderful tool for learning. The more a child is exposed to a song, the more likely they are to remember the words. The more a song pertains to something they need to learn, the better they perform with that skill. My students are eager learners and they love to sing! They would listen to music all day. The amazing thing about music is that they rarely realize they are learning something highly important.

My Project

We are able to listen to music and learn important skills through song, but our musical learning is confined to our classroom. We use songs to teach essential skills in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. We would love to take our learning outside because we have so much beautiful weather, but we have no way to do this. Our music cannot travel with us. We also visit our local senior center and sing for them- usually with no music. If we had an iPod to use with our already present portable iPod dock, we could take our learning anywhere.

We use so much music in first grade because the rhythm and tune help students remember otherwise difficult processes and skills.

We also use these wonderful educational songs to inspire other students and classes. Please help make it possible for us to throw off the constraints of our traditional classroom and explore the amazing locations surrounding our school while we learn through music.
