The Class Clowns of Middle School

My Students

Middle Schoolers are at the emotional cliff of becoming terribly withdrawn or confident in their own abilities. I teach them that they can overcome their fears through "play" as a clown, puppeteer, drama actor, etc... These skills are life-skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

My kids are primarily middle class and the majority come from broken homes.

The school is now a middle school with 6th-8th grades. The excitement to new challenges these students bring sets me on fire for them. I find any and all opportunities for them to be in front of other people to gain inner strength.

My Project

We have a clown troupe that joins in on 1 or 2 parades a year, plus helping with the March of Dimes Walk. We have a musical, school play, plus a fun pageant for the girls, who have to have a male escort, which promotes a sense of identity as females in relationship to respect from the males. My speech classes also include learning how to make a speech in front of audiences and prepare reports for classes. These materials will allow me to do a number of activities that I would either not do or pay for myself.

My deepest heart-felt desire is that my students develop and mature as people...learning how to overcome stage fright is a HUGE skill that these children can use throughout the rest of their lives.

I have taught at the college level and have found that if they have not conquered their fears as young students, those fears follow them. My desire is that they become strong within themselves before they encounter the brutal decision-making time of high school/college.
