RIF - Reading Is Fun!

My students need 11 phonics and reading comprehension activities, like Phonics Magnetic Word Building Boards, and literacy based floor puzzles.

My Students

I am a Kindergarten teacher working at a public school in the state of Indiana. I currently teach an inclusion class, which is specifically designed for children that have special needs.

My school is located in the southern part of Indiana.

I teach at an urban school where 71% of the children are on free or reduce lunch. The children are very excited and eager to learn, but lack resources at home to support what I am teaching them at school.

My Project

I am requesting 11 phonics and literacy based activities, including Reading Skills Puzzles and a set of Phonemic Awareness Instant Learning Centers. I currently do not have the proper materials to help me meet the needs of my students that are performing below grade level. I have 5 students, out of 21, who scored on-grade level when I assessed them at the beginning of the school year. The materials will help the children build the proper foundation to help them become successful readers.

If my grant is funded, it will allow my students the opportunity to learn in a small group setting with the materials provided through this grant.
