This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students often have chaotic home lives and disruptions to essential routines.

My students are bright and vibrant.

They love coming to the library and getting to check out books to share with their families. They are excited to come to storytime. We often open with a joke because they love to laugh. Still, our students often lose books they check out because they don't have backpacks or a safe place to keep their book at home. They often stay in multiple homes or are shuttled back and forth.

My Project

I am requesting Book Buddy Bags for students to keep the books in, that they check out from the library. They are so excited to check out a book, but sometimes due to things beyond their control, they lose books in their home or car because they don't have a safe place to put them or a way to protect them from the elements. If their favorite book is lost or ruined, it often cannot be replaced.

My project is important because my goal is to establish a routine and to make reading at home a regular part of the students' home lives even if their home lives are chaotic.

By having the Book Buddy Bag, the students can transport the books with them where ever they go and they can read, even if things are in a whirlwind around them. This will also save money in the long run by protecting the books they library already has.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
