This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Trying to incorporate appropriate reading materials into the music classroom can sometimes be very challenging.

I have been the full-time music specialist at my school for 17 years and have services hundreds or wonderful students!

My school is located in an urban district with a high level of poverty. Many of my students do not have access to reading material that is music based.

My Project

I am requesting classroom subscriptions to "Activate!" magazine, "Music K-8" magazine, and "Music Express" magazine. These periodicals will arrive to the music room on a monthly basis and are filled with wonderful activities for my students. There are songs to sing, music to play on instruments, articles on current music trends, and interviews with famous musicians. These magazines are wonderful because they cover all styles and time periods or music! Once we are done using these in class, I can use them again and again for years to come as well as lend them out for students to bring home and share with their families.

These magazine subscriptions will allow my students to expand their ideas of what music is, where it comes from, and why it is used all around the world.

The students will most definitely be engaged by the content of each issue and I know they will look forward to receiving new issues.
