Teaching Social Justice

My students need literature that teaches social justice issues and ideas.

My Students

My students are at an age when engaging them critically in dialogue about how to make the world better is important. As future leaders, they must learn empathy and must learn not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

I teach middle school reading in a large urban school district.

Money is nonexistent. These amazing students go without new materials and engaging resources as a result. My students should not suffer, because lawmakers have not made funding education a top priority. The students I teach are intelligent and curious, and I love the school I teach in. Lack of funding does not prevent us from being a vibrant place full of learning.

My Project

I am asking for copies of a book that will teach students about the harshness of war and the tenacity of the human spirit. Students will read the book and participate in class discussions in small groups and other comprehension activities. They will create projects to promote peace.

Your contribution to my project does not just provide my classroom with books.

It also builds better citizens who will work to create a better world and who will promote peace. Thank you!
