Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember trying to figure out who you were in high school and who you wanted to become? My students are at that questioning stage in their lives. They are eager to grow up and figure out what their contribution to society will be and they could use your help!
These teenage students are at the stage in their lives where they are piecing themselves together and figuring out who they are.
They are truly an amazing group of young people ready to explore the world through literature.
My Project
This year students will read Renee Watson's piecing me together. During this coming of age unit, students will begin to explore who they are and think critically about how they will contribute to the world.
Who am I and who am I becoming?
Students will explore the answer to this question in their final project assignment. After reading the book, they will create a scrapbook that represents various components of their own identities. They will essentially, piece themselves together in their project. My students will use the scrapbook supply kit to create their own individual and personalized visual presentation of who they were and who they are becoming.
