Mrs. Singer's classroom raised $570

Blinded by the Overhead Bulb, Saved by Projector

My students need a classroom projector to use with interactive powerpoints and websites, to make lessons more exciting and engaging.

My Students

Do you remember taking notes off an overhead projector when you were in school? Well, my room hasn't changed much. There are over 1500 students and over 80 teachers so the projectors we do have are in high demand. Students need this technology to help enhance their learning experience.

I teach science in a rural, high poverty area in North Carolina.

The students are in grades 9 through 12. There is a diverse population, including a high population of students with disabilities that are mainstreamed. The students want to learn and achieve but need more than an overhead projector to catch their attention. I teach mostly Physical Science and Chemistry. A projector would greatly help the visual learners. Because of the high tech world around them, most students are visual learners. They would be able to see 3D models of atoms and diagrams of atomic size. This would help them learn and in turn raise test scores. Students in NC must take and pass EOC exams in order to pass some science classes. These students want to do better than their parents and graduate from high school. I want to be able to help them reach their goals by being the best teacher I can be. In order to be better, I need a LCD projector. I want to help them become a learner for the 21st century.

My Project

A LCD projector could virtual change every lesson that I teach. Notes are now given to students using an overhead projector and a whiteboard. I could create interactive PowerPoint presentations with 3D pictures in order to engage the students better. The students will learn how to use technology to enhance their knowledge. Students could use the projector to create presentations of scientist instead of just a research paper. This projector would also allow me to show current events in my science classroom through links such as Google Earth Weather Maps. A projector that is in my room all the time could enhance the learning for almost 180 high school students in a year. It could peak their interest in science and lead them to a career in science. The lessons would be more engaging, exciting, and stimulating. The students could be more involved in every aspect of their learning. This projector could also interact with other technology such as a Smartboard and CPS system.

An LCD projector would enhance my science classroom in many ways and touch the lives of many students.

It would make lessons so much better and more visual. The broad impact would be helping students from a high poverty area have more access to better technology, that they deserve. They deserve the best teacher I can be and a LCD projector could help me prepare and deliver much better lesson. This in turn would lead to students learning and loving science more. Isn't that what we want!
