This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you read Cinderella or King Midas? These are two great classics that can not be forgotten. Believe it or not, many of my students have heard of the stories, but have not sat down to read them.

This year I have an eager bunch of students that are ready to improve their reading skills.

Most of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes, so books are scarce. I teach 28 fifth grade students and most are beginning the school year with reading skills below grade level.

My Project

These Cinderella books from around the world and King Midas will help my students reinforce many of their reading skills. They will be comparing the various books. My students will work in groups or teams to compare and contrast the setting, culture, and characters point of view. They will create their own version of Cinderella or King Midas or retell the story using dramatics. They will also research the different countries of the Cinderella books and present their findings to peers and parents.

If you enjoyed Cinderella or King Midas, then you can see that these books will be a motivating factors for my students.
