This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It is time to build math skills! Building sets is a great way to do it! This will also build group skills and creativity. The students will also receive experience in preparing and crewing for a big musical.

It is time to get the projects going again.

School is here and the students are ready to learn! I am very fortunate to teach and lead the drama and technical theatre classes at Will on the Hill. Rehearsals for our big musical review will begin as well. Eighty-nine percent of our population receives free and reduced lunch services. This makes it very difficult for our students to go much beyond supplying the very basic needs such as paper, notebooks and pens and pencils. It is so important that our students receive a quality education they deserve.

My Project

Most of our students hold down jobs to help support their families. I try very hard each year to get to receive grants to pay for all the extra supplies I need for the classroom. Our district is in a financial crisis. There is no extra money for the classroom. The supplies will keep my lessons very interesting, creative, imaginative and relevant. This scene design project will increase math and literacy scores as well as build a foundation of group work. My students will be building sets for our musical review production. They will will have to draw in scale then render the set in a model to make sure all measurements are correct. It will be so enlightening to see them build the full size sets. They will be using hands-on methods of education as well as Bloom's Taxonomy. My students can take this experience and begin learning a construction trade. So many positive aspects will arise from this project.

The students will gain an understanding and have real world experience in the field of the professional theatrical scene designer. I can't wait to start this project.
