My Students

Remember your first day of school, coming in to your new classroom, meeting your teacher, saying good by to your mom or dad...? Then you come and sit on the carpet with your teacher and have morning group time. The carpet was so warm and inviting...

My students come from a very low-income area.

Many of them only live with one parent or other relatives. The majority of my school receives free or reduced lunch prices. A majority do not have great home lives and school is their main place to receive structure, consistency, guidance and love. The classroom becomes their home away from home and a constant in their lives (one of very few that they have). I love the students I work with and strive every day to be that consistent, loving person in their life for the year they are in my classroom. I want to make the classroom as warm, safe and inviting for them as possible.

My Project

The materials I'm asking to be donated are a bookshelf and a classroom rug. A big part of the day in Pre-K is spent on the carpet either receiving formal or informal instruction. The carpet I'm asking to be donated is warm, colorful, as well as educational. The children will enjoy sitting on the letters and numbers, listening to myself teach, as well as walk/ hop from letter to letter and number to number teaching themselves and their friends. The bookshelf is extremely important as well. Fostering a love for books at such a young age is critical in today's world. Too many children struggle with reading and dislike it, however if at a young age they can be taught to enjoy reading it will help them in their educational future tremendously.

I spend a lot of my own money on materials needed in the classroom, however these are some things needed that I can't afford. These donations would greatly benefit my children as well as myself. Thank you for taking time to read this.
