My Students

"Wow! This is so cool!" These are many of my students first words as they experience education on the computer. They love to take turns playing educational games on the computer. This enables them to practice reading and math skills in a way that is nonthreatening and engaging to them.

My students come from high poverty backgrounds.

Most of them only eat the meals provided in the cafeteria. Some do not have basic school supplies to begin the first day of school. Many have no paper or pencils to complete their homework. The school district does the best it can to provide a firm grounding to prepare students to become model citizens. However that is not always enough. Most of my students do not have access to a computer outside the classroom. Technology is the future. Students are much more engaged when activities are interactive on the computer. By teaching them basic computer skills when they are young, they will be able to move forward and learn research, analyzing, computer programming skills later rather then having to spend time becoming familiar with a computer.

My Project

I need a computer that is reliable and will not shut down when the students are trying to use it to enhance their learning. In our classroom the computer would serve as a workstation students may choose to use once their work has been completed. Having a reliable student computer will also enable me, the teacher, to present power points and other interactive formats of learning to my students. I will be able to present educational video clips to my students using this new computer. The video clips are especially helpful in bringing subjects such as social studies to life for my students. Students will begin to learn research skills using the Internet and will be able to practice skills such as math and reading through various websites and software.

By receiving a new computer my students will have a computer that is reliable and they will be able to participate in interactive learning which has been shown to increase student achievement.

They will be equipped with skills vital to becoming successful citizens if they can begin to learn computer skills while they are young.
