My Students

I am currently a 5th Grade teacher in a low-income school district. All of my children are currently receiving free lunch. This is my 8th year in the classroom, and my third year as a 5th grade teacher. I have also taught 3rd Grade and 5th Grade.

Since my children come from low income families they have many hardships in their lives.

It is hard to require so much of them when they are struggling with so many things that I never had to deal with. Imagine coming home to an empty house at the age of 10. No one to fix you a snack, no one to help with your homework and, sadly, going to bed without a story read to them. Keeping two 10 and 11 year olds entertained is hard. Keeping 30 of them entertained, while trying to trick them into learning, is even harder!!

My Project

My students need folders and labels to keep them organized! With these supplies, we will start by being organized in September. With the labels, I can start by labeling their supplies, books and different areas of the room. The folders will be used for their classwork, homework and writing center. The pens will be used for the writing center as well. The transparency film will be used for journal topics.

These supplies are very important in aiding my children to be successful learners.

You know that when you are organized things get done more effectively, and definitely get done a lot quicker.
