My Students

I work at a Title 1 school so our parents often work during our writing and reading celebrations. With the flip camera I will be able to record the children and upload them on our website. The children will also be able to record each other reading books and reading their writing to help fluency.

This year I will be getting an English as Second language cluster.

These children often struggle with self esteem especially when reading due to language difficulties. However, they love watching themselves on the computer or TV. I also work at a Title 1 school so much of our population is lower income, working 2 or 3 low paying jobs. The parents are unable to attend celebrations that we have in class and activities so this camera will allow me to quickly post the video to my website for all the parents to view.

My Project

The camera will help my students gain self esteem in reading because they will be able to watch themselves on the computer. They will gain independence because it is easy to use so it is something they can do on their own. They will get excited about their learning because posting reading and celebrations on the website will let my parents get involved who are unable to come to school due to home life situations.

Getting students excited about their learning especially in a Title 1 ESL population is crucial to establishing a foundation for higher learning.

If I can get them excited in first grade I feel I have done my job and using technology such as a flip camera is just one tool I can use to accomplish this goal.
