This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How can you learn about Ohio History as a fourth grader if you don't have books about Ohio?

My fourth grade students attend a charter school in Ohio that has only been open for two years.

The students are enthusiastic about school, but lack the resources necessary to jump start their learning about Ohio History. Many of my students are Hispanic immigrants, and are eager to learn about the state they live in. My students are also economically disadvantaged; not only because of the economy, but because of the community they live in.

My Project

The books I have chosen for our classroom library give vivid descriptions of Ohio: her native people; famous people, including presidents and inventors; geography; trade along the river; pioneers; battles for territory; as well as the state flag, state seal and motto.

Donations of books to our class library will open up a whole new world of exploration and learning for my students!

Without a social studies curriculum in place, additional resources are needed in order to expose students to the content areas required, and any donation large or small will give these children a glimpse into what the great state of Ohio has to offer them, and what they can give back to Ohio! Thank you!
