My Students

Can you remember how you did math growing up? I'm sure it was full of questions, facts, worksheets and rote memorization. Well today is a new day and with everything else that has changed in the world, so has our math instruction....and we need your HELP!

Let me introduce you to these movie stars.

Our cast consists of a first grade class of 20 SUPERSTARS. The setting is in a high poverty public school. We do not have a high percentage of parent involvement and since most of them are from low income households, they are not able to provide financial support. We sometimes lack many resources that help to make a classroom interactive and high energy. My school is a focus school, which means that over 75% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Many of my students come to school without pencils, paper and/or clean clothes. They lack the resources they need to fit their learning needs and learning styles. My students are in need of your help. SO here's the conflict.

My Project

We've moved to a curriculum that is very different for both families and students. However, this curriculum is one of the best and pushes our future leaders outside standard algorithms. It also is forcing them to become mathematicians who analyze and evaluate the process of how the "math" is taking place. We are asking for this flip camera so that our scholars are able to put their learning on the big screen. Not only would this be an engaging piece of learning but will help us evaluate process of during the learning and teaching, but it will allow us as a class to see how the work is being done. We will be able to see how scholars solve problems and not just how they talk about them. Inevitably it will help other scholars see processes that they weren't thinking about.

So we're ready to sign autographs if you're ready to provide us the equipment.
