Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A picture is worth a thousand words! We have heard this a million times, but with this donation, it can happen. Document projectors are amazing. They provide a powerful learning experience for children because they get to show their work with it's actual beauty and color!

My school is in south east Albuquerque, New Mexico.

We have such a dynamic and diverse student population. My friends viewed my class photo from last year and said "Wow! It looks like you are teaching at the United Nations." It is true my class and school have many different students from many different backgrounds, but the word that stuck out to me from that statement was "United" because that is how I feel when I show up to work. My students show dedication, commitment, and ownership of their learning. They show up everyday and display the best parts of human nature such as acceptance, empathy, and caring no matter what the cultural or economic background. I am hoping to to give something back to their learning since they have taught me so much!

My Project

Even though most of us cannot remember what it was like to be a six years old and in first grade, I want you to picture a first grader working a full week on a writing piece about a vacation she took. She writes and writes. When she feels she is done, she conferences with the teacher to make her writing better. Then she publishes her work by rewriting her edits and enhancing her pictures. She has put her little 6 year old heart and soul into this piece. With her fellow students waiting at writer's circle, she now gets to walk up front, put her writing under the document projector, and share every bit of her writing from characters, details, and even COLOR!! This girl now knows what it feels like to be a writer! This is what drives me as a teacher. Experiences like this. I already have an LCD projector so the ELMO would be the final piece is creating the experience described above!

The ELMO opens up so many educational doors.

It enhances my current LCD projector by creating so many teachable moments. Counting pennies is no longer counting black and white icons on an old overhead projector. It is children counting actual pennies and having that process projected in color onto the screen aiding the student and his or hers peers. It is being able to have student project the actual book they made onto a big screen creating pride.
