This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Since Harry Potter is about to be huge again, it is time to cash in on it's current and future success. Our 2nd grade students are not expected to be able to read Harry Potter, but we're going to try.

Our students are considered at-risk by No Child Left Behind.

This is not surprising since many enter our school with a very small amount of English in their vocabulary. Many are expected little more than to learn to speak English, let alone read it. Our students are extremely hard working but come to us far behind their neighbors in other parts of town.

My Project

Most of my students are not expected to read chapter books by the end of 2nd grade. In an effort to change the culture of low expectations, we are requesting several sets of the entire Harry Potter series. These books and supplemental materials will help to inspire students to read while encouraging them to reach their highest possible level.

These materials intend to cash in on the popularity of Harry Potter by motivating a generation of young readers this upcoming school year, and for years to come.

I plan to use the materials as a resource from early on in the year, until the end of the year. While not all students will be able to read and understand Harry Potter independently, the supplemental material will be used by all students in the class to ensure no students are left out.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
