My Students

Technology to a Kindergartener is as natural as a paper book is to a teacher. Just think what a small video camera in the hands of a kindergartener will teach everyone? The possibilities are endless.

My students range in age from 4 to 6 years old.

They are inquisitive, imaginative, techno smart, and energetic. Our school is located in Iowa. We are a four section K - 5 school with just over 90 students in kindergarten, our total enrollment exceeds 500. Our community is very middle class with education as one of its top priorities.

My Project

The new small video cameras are just the right size for kindergarten small hands. We read everyday and with the students able to record each other they will be able to see how well they are reading or not reading. They will be able to see their growth over time as they increase speed and fluency. The cameras will also be a great way to record science experiments. With most kindergarten students unable to write the use of the video cameras will make documenting processes and end results a shared experience. The possibilities are endless. We will be able to review/interpret data and change over time. I have seen these cameras in their hands...they love it and share so much. Think of one student sharing a story, another student asking questions, while the third student is video taping. The next day we can share it with everyone. The language experience itself is endless.

Technology is a natural fit for the students of the 21st century.

There is no limit to what these video cameras could produced. By putting the video cameras in the hands of the students we will accurately see from their point of view how they grasp learning and speaking. Can you imagine what it would be like to get a video of what your child did in kindergarten and I don't just mean a picture CD, but your child actually talking and explaining things as they are doing them.
