My Students

What do successful writers do? Successful writers study the craft of published authors. Successful writers use a variety of plans to help them organize their thoughts and stories. With these materials our Author's Corner will be a place where they can craft their own stories.

My 2nd grade students are a loving bunch of children who give all they can each and every day.

Most of my children live in an environment that creates stress and uncertainty in their lives. Over 80% of my children are at or below the poverty line, they come from homes with so little and are expected to give so much. Many children do not have the opportunity to read or write at home, the only exposure to these skills are received at school. I want to teach my children to use a variety of resources to meet the needs of a writer.

My Project

The easel and cart will be a critical piece of instruction and organization in our Author's Corner. I will use the easel in whole group to co-create anchor charts that identify key skills needed to write successfully. The easel will also double as a place to practice words through the use of magnetic letters and dry erase markers. The children can practice their writing in a variety of modes. The cart will be used to house the graphic organizers my authors use in workshop. It will also hold our stationary so the students can express themselves creatively.

These materials will be an invaluable resource for my students this year and in years to come.

I will be able to show them how successful writers develop their pieces through the writing process. My students will be able to practice their writing using a variety of organizers that are easily accessible in our writing cart. The easel will provide me the opportunity to model writing and allow the students to practice their own writing with various tools.
