Every day many walk into class and say excitedly, \"Are we reading the Hunger Games today?\" While reading the novels, students are working on inferencing skills, along with identifying the mood, tone, theme, point of view, and setting of the novel. Eventually, students will complete a character analysis on how two of the characters change from the beginning of the novel to the end. Students will also complete a plot analysis, and explore the literary and figurative devices used in the novel. Academic conversations will also be embedded throughout the lessons.\r\n\r\nSince starting the novel, I have noticed an increase in student engagement--up to 90%! I enjoy hearing and watching students' reactions at certain points in the novel. A couple of students have checked out the novel from the school's library so they can read ahead! Students will also enjoy the planned activities, which include \"shopping\" at The Hob, becoming Tributes, Mentors, Gamemakers, or Stylists, and sending Sponsor Gifts to their District's Tribute. Reading novels allows me to help students visualize the plot events, and also aid in making the novel \"come alive.\" When it's reading time, students get comfortable, settle in, and start reading. It's great to see them go on the same adventures as the characters.","fullyFundedDate":1739376106008,"projectUrl":"project/the-hunger-games-classroom-novel-sets/9107920/","projectTitle":"The Hunger Games Classroom Novel Sets","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Donaldson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9920754"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_51987","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":855,"numTeachers":68,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":68,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":49.4,"schoolId":51987,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Woodrow Wilson Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Woodrow Wilson Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/iowa/council-bluffs-community-school-district/woodrow-wilson-middle-school/51987"}
