My Students

Do you ever feel like people judge you based on the way you look or what you do for a living? S.E. Hinton proves to students in "The Outsiders" that the ability to do something good goes beyond a persons image and reputation.

I teach 7th grade language arts in an high need urban district.

Due to our current economic climate our school is facing tough financial times. We have been cut back to the minimum staff needed, extra-curricular activities have been cut and there is no money for extra supplies. The students are feeling the pinch daily of attending a district without enough money.

My Project

In schools across the nation there are students who "rule the school"- the popular kids with the latest phones & clothes. Then there those students who are picked on because they don't fit in. They don't have the newest phone or the best clothes. Most of the time these groups assume the worst about each other. By reading "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton I hope my students will be able to see that a persons identity is more than the group they belong to.

Your help will make it possible for my students to see that each person in this world can make a difference.

You may not be able to fund my entire project but if enough donors get together and help my students they will learn that every little bit is a step in the right direction.
