Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine sitting in a classroom where the teacher is speaking another language. How hard would it be to understand what they are saying. That is how most of my students feel everyday they come to school. So If I can help them understand and learn how to read. I am doing my job!

Word sorts give students the opportunity to see words in a different way.

Seeing how words are the same and how they can be different. Because I have such a high population of English Language Learners, some have never been to school. This will help in my efforts and determination to get them reading. The school is predominately Latino and African American. With our free and reduced lunch at 98%.

My Project

I am requesting word sorting materials. I need to start with picture word sorts first. And it is hard getting colored bright pictures sometimes. These books give me those pictures and more ideas of words to use during my sorts. As teachers we are very creative, but over the years we often times need some help. These books have so many activities and ideas that I am excited about incorporating into my classroom.

This is so important because without reading students will be lost.

First grade is such an important step in a Child's life. These sorts will help my students to see that reading is not only informational but can be fun. My passion for reading is always transferred to my students. My love for reading comes out in my gift of teaching and my students get to experience that everyday. And it is amazing how their love for reading grows through me by the end of the year.
