My Students

Do you remember your favorite fairy tale story your family read to you when you were a child? Many children in my class never heard/been read classic fairy tale stories, such as Little Red Riding Hood or Jack and the Beanstalk. It be great to have these available in their own class library.

I teach the second grade, low ability reading class.

Our class includes 12 out of 15 English as Second Language learners. These children speak Russian, Somali, Vietnamese, Spanish, and Lao! All of the children are so eager to learn English and read to their parents. Our school is a Title I school, which means our student population is over 50% low-income.

My Project

Our district is facing budget cuts in the coming year. I want to continue to provide the best teaching possible. This includes as many opportunities for my students to experience literacy as possible. By providing Fairy Tale and Caldecott books to our class library, it will give each child the opportunity to appreciate the pictures, read at their own pace, and become familiar with wonderful stories.

It is important that this project becomes funded for the literacy of the second grade children.

It will help their imaginations and let the boys and girls learn that reading is actually really FUN!
