Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When it comes to the need for technology in the classroom, my students are missing out. Currently, my students have access to a laptop cart that does not work, and computer labs that are overbooked. Technology, a fundamental part of today's educational experience, is missing in my classroom.

My students are in an urban school district in Massachusetts, where they are in a sub-separate special education program within a larger school.

As described in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), all of my students suffer from multiple learning disabilities and/or socio-emotional disabilities. As diagnosed in their IEPs, my students have trouble learning through traditional teaching strategies, yet excel with 'out of the box' lessons and learning experiences. Despite their academic difficulties, they are extremely energetic and enthusiastic about learning and developing their academic skills for future success.

My Project

With the addition of two new netbooks, my students will be able to make meaning of class content through new and challenging media. Netbooks will allow students to understand historical content by integrating language, audio, video, and experiential modes of learning through web based projects - all methods that are promoted by their individual learning plans. In groups students will be able to create websites, digital posters, blogs, and movies about history. By making technology an integral part of every lesson, students will be active participants within the learning experience of the classroom. In addition, students will get vital experience with new technologies that will help them be successful in future endeavors.

These netbooks will provide genuine student-centered education. Whether posting on the class blog, directing video clips, or creating a digital timeline, students will be able to uniquely engage in content while implicitly learning new technologies for the future.
