My Students

"Art is a technique of communication. The image is the most complete technique of all communication." Claus Oldenburg. In order for my students to experience the images of the world's greatest masterpieces, an LCD projector and DVD/VCR is needed in our art room.

My students are lucky to live near the Jersey shore, however, most of them have never been to an art museum in a big city.

Coming from diverse backgrounds and working class families, this high school of 1500 students has lots of school spirit. The students are enthusiastic and very curious about art. Since they are required to take one art course while in school my aim is to enrich their lives with the beauty and limitlessness of art which they would otherwise not be exposed to. Unfortunately, the school is not well equipped technologically and field trips are not allowed. No money is available for a projector and DVD/VCR for the art room. Only one projector for the whole school can be borrowed from the media center. Needless to say, this makes it very difficult to create interest without the art to view in my Art and Artists course.

My Project

Imagine taking a class about the world's greatest artists and not be able to view their work while discussing it! I have accumulated an extensive masterpiece image library and prepared eye catching Power Points but cannot present it to my classes without an LCD projector. I have also collected artist biographies and other related videos that would enhance the class but need a VCR/DVD to play them. Until now, I have had students gather around my 13' laptop to look at the art which doesn't create much of an impact on the 29 students in each class crowding in to get a glimpse. This equipment is essential today to allow students to observe, analyze, respond and be inspired to create their own art in the styles and techniques of renowned artists. These resources will open up a world of art for my students.

Please help inspire young adults to be creative thinkers in today's visual society by providing the tools necessary to expand their "vision".

Vincent Van Gogh once said, "Color in a painting is like enthusiasm in life." Your help will give my students the gift of appreciating the brilliant color in Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and a lifelong love of art. Thank you for your interest in this project.
