Computers For All: One Computer at a Time

My students need one mini laptop to help them practice their math facts and do research projects.

My Students

"It's my turn," is the phrase that I hear constantly when it is computer time. Everyone wants to use the mini-laptops to practice their math facts. When there are only two laptops and 24 students keeping track of who's turn it is can become a gigantic task!

Our school is a rural K-2 school in a high poverty district.

We are a wonderfully ethnically diverse school with five classrooms of each grade level. Technology is our focus with the aim to expose our students to the world of today. Many students do not have access to computers at home so providing that experience at school is essential.

My Project

We were awarded two mini-laptops last school year and they were the hottest item in the classroom. Everyone wanted their turn "everyday." The interest in practicing math facts exploded as did our testing results. In this age of technology, grabbing and holding the interest of students is a challenge - the mini-laptops reeled them in hook line and sinker!!

It has been the discuss for years between our second and third grade teachers that students struggle in math if they are not fluent with their math facts.

Utilizing technology and creating interest in the task helps to raise their fluency with facts and making students more successful as they progress through the grades.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
