Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

To be fully bilingual, that is what I want for my students. It is my job to make sure that by the time students leave my classroom they have acquired English skills to have a chance to succeed.

My classroom is composed of 100% English learners.

Their primary language is Spanish, many of them are newcomers to the country; they come from low income families, many of them with a single parent at home. The school receives 100% free or reduced lunch.

My Project

My students need engaging games and center materials to developing English language skills. Most of the curriculum is done in Spanish, but by the middle of the school year we have half Spanish and half English instruction. In order for First Graders to learn the English language, (speaking, reading, writing and comprehension) I rely on activities that are fun and engaging for all. I try to use reality, pictures and games. The materials that we need are resources that will help support students' learning, develop their English language skills, help them become better readers and writers and give them confidence to communicate in a second language. The Early Language game libraries, Phonemic Awareness Instant Learning Center, Mastering Basic Skills Small group reading kit will give students independent practice with letter sounds, will help students develop beginning and ending sound recognition, practice with sight words and rhyming. These materials will support students improve reading comprehension, vocabulary and word analysis skills.

Reading skills are difficult to develop for many students and even more for students who are learning to read in a language that is not their primary language.

These materials will be great resources that will have a great impact in my students English language development. On behalf of my student and myself I thank you for your consideration and support.
