Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There is a dearth of history being taught in today's elementary school classrooms. To educate tomorrow's leaders, we need more resources that inform them about the past.

My 3rd graders are hungry to learn.

They attend a low income school in California, where there is no art, PE, music or extra curricular activities available. There is also a lack of books at their reading level. I have seen motivation and work ethic grow immensely when I am able to present interesting topics in books they can read.

My Project

Having various Time For Kids magazines will allow my students to read periodicals at their level. It will inspire a love for history, reading and social activism. The Biography series will allow my students to conduct an in-depth project about a figure from history. This will not only improve their reading and writing, but also their general knowledge.

It will provide them the chance to access periodicals at their level, introducing them to the world of news print. This will inspire a love for learning like never before.
