Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We have a group of 60 kindergarteners at our school who are emergent readers and growing to understand and love books and reading. Listening to the books on tape help the stories come alive and help to improve their fluency.

We are a K-5 school that links academics, values and community to graduate articulate scholars who meet or exceed standards and active citizens who learn and serve in their communities.

Families, staff and community join together to provide a safe, supportive learning environment that empowers students to take an active role in learning and demonstrate good character. In addition to our mission, we teach the values of integrity, responsibility, patience, wonder, kindness, and courage. In the Kindergarten classroom, we are a group of emergent readers who have a love of learning!

My Project

We have many books on tape and our students will use the listening station with the earphones that we already have. Our tape players are currently broken and also do not play CD's that have been burned. We use it for a center to help improve independent fluency and also as a whole class activity to have a shared reading experience. We also use it to sing along to familiar songs and learn new songs.

Thank you for taking the time to make a difference our students will be so happy to have the opportunity to have a listening center that functions properly and can be used for a variety of learning experiences.
