My Students

Where does imagination go? Down the rabbit hole? Seventh Graders need to know the power of imagination and the value of storytelling. The high interest books I chose will motivate my students to read, help them unlock their imaginations, and guide them as they adapt classic tales.

My incoming class is a lively, friendly, and highly excitable group of early adolescents.

They enjoy coming to school and like a good challenge. I have immeasurable amounts of fun with this class and hope to give them meaningful and memorable learning experiences.

My Project

My students need to read high interest books of varying difficulty, such as "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Looking Glass Wars." It's imperative that I hook these students into reading ad they make preparations for high school. Boys at this grade level are typically reluctant to read, and girls often like to read about relationships and girl power. The books I chose appeal to both boys and girls of all types. The novels have action, romance, fantastic creatures, supernatural powers, and of course, Alice. There's no doubt in my mind that the books I selected will hook students into reading and inspire them to use their creativity and imaginations to adapt classic stories. Students will learn strategies for developing rising action, memorable characters, and vivid pictures in the minds of readers. "Alice in Wonderland" is the perfect text for easing my students into poetry. "The Looking Glass Wars" is a modern take on the "true story" behind Lewis Carroll's novel. The two novels combined will help my students determine what makes a story worth telling.

Please help my students access classic and contemporary literature that will make them want to read.

Adolescents who enjoy reading perform better in school and in life. There is no doubt that my students will devour and enjoy these texts as they learn that dreamers make the future.
