My Students

Sharing in the author's chair is the most exciting part of the writing process for many of my students! It is a reward for their hard work of brainstorming, writing, editing, and revising. It is their opportunity to share samples of their writing with their peers!

My class is a very diverse group of young people.

Our Title One school has a large population of English Language Learners, which makes our classroom a great environment to learn from one another! Since writing is an expression of oneself, our Author's Chair is a great way for us to celebrate our similarities and differences.

My Project

Funding for this project will supply my students with a handheld microphone and podium to use as they sit and read in the Author's Chair or stand at the podium and read into the microphone. Reading to an audience will serve as a reward for hard work done well for the students and a motivational force for their future work. It also benefits the audience by helping to develop their active-listening and attention span skills.

The Author's Chair is the time when a writer can share his/her final writing product with an audience.

The author will be able to receive positive feedback, which will encourage, support, and uplift him/her as a writer. In addition, listening to their peers share, will open up windows to learn from each other as writers, and as people. Your donation to this request will make a difference in the students in my class and for other students for many years to come!
