My students need 12 books to complete a research paper on one of the thirteen colonies.

How can our students successfully write a research paper if they do not have the appropriate resources to gather information from?
I teach fourth grade at a charter school in a high-needs community in New York.
Our charter school uses a co-teaching model, so there are two certified teachers in each classroom with up to twenty-eight students. This allows for increased opportunities for small group instruction and a more differentiated learning experience for each student. As grade team leader, it is my responsibility to ensure that the fourth grade students in both classes have the materials they need to be successful.
My students need a series of books about each of the thirteen colonies to complete a research paper. Our school uses an integrated English Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum. As part of our study of Colonial America, each student writes a research paper. After an overview of the New England colonies, the Middle colonies and the Southern colonies, each student selects a colony to research and writes three research questions. Then each student reads a variety of sources to gather information, takes notes, writes an outline and then drafts, revises, edits and publishes a research paper. Since each student must use a minimum of three sources, it is important that we have a variety of resources available in the classroom. The "Life in the Thirteen Colonies" series is filled with a balance of written text, illustrations, pictures and captions, and is written at an age-appropriate reading level. There is a wealth of knowledge about each of the colonies to support a range of research questions.
Your help will enable our fourth grade students to have rich research resources at their fingertips.
"The Life in the Thirteen Colonies" series is age-appropriate, engaging and filled with valuable information that will enable each student to successfully gather information to answer his or her research questions.
