My students need an Acer Aspire One netbook, a 2GB RAM module, and a protective storage sleeve for editing their 7th and 8th grade photography and animation projects.

My Students

We're creating new worlds and animating our ideas and need netbooks to help us do this! My 7th and 8th grade art students are learning about architectural design and stop-motion animation, and need netbooks to help them learn the necessary photo, animation, and 3-D sketching programs.

Our school is a tiny city K-8 public school serving a high need, mostly immigrant community.

Our student body is approximately 75% Dominican, with the last 25% a mixture of other Latin American nationalities and ethnicities, Eastern European, Middle Eastern, Asian, African American, and Anglo American. Our goal is to graduate each student with a clear view of the possibilities for their futures and the skills needed to achieve these.

My Project

We need a laptop that is solely dedicated to the visual arts program, that allows students to store their work and access it regularly, which will not suffer large amounts of use and abuse at the hands of many. We need a total of 2 GB of RAM memory so that our programs will run quickly and smoothly, and a laptop sleeve to protect the laptop while it is not being used. 

 As a part of this, my mobile art program teaches design to Grades 6-8. We do not have access to a set of fully-functioning laptop computers for internet for research, or to learn the design programs for their curriculum. Donors Choose has helped us receive 4 marvelous Acer netbooks so far, which have given the 8th graders opportunities to create and edit their animation project,s and will give the 7th graders a chance to learn the Google Sketchup 3-D technical drawing program.

With this donation, you will empower 60 students to edit photographs and create stop-motion animated movies - and countless numbers of 8th graders in the following years.

The opportunity to do this work opens their eyes to yet another potential career, and strengthens their technology skills and knowledge.
