Literacy is Power

My students need a classroom library of leveled reading books to help develop their love for reading, increase their reading fluency, and build their comprehension skills.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Literacy is Power! The ability to read and write is a skill that is needed to be successful in our society. A book can take students to places and expose them to things beyond their imagination. A variety of books should be available to students to help build their reading skills.

Eager, motivated, intelligent, and curious are just a few words that describe my students.

They continue to work diligently toward academic success. Reading is an area that my students have the most difficulty. Many of the difficulties that exist among the students are due to a lack of resources available to them. Due to the many budget cuts, getting those resources have been twice as difficult. Our students are lacking in books available to them. Most students do not even own a book at home. When they come to school there are a shortage of books or they are old and very worn. Because they are so motivated and have the drive to learn, resources such as books should be made available to them.

My Project

A classroom library filled with books on a variety to topics and at various levels will assist my students in achieving academic success in reading. The Scholastic Leveled Reading books will provide my students with books at their level and on topics that they enjoy reading. My students will be able to increase their fluency skills and build the comprehension skills also. Exposure to a variety of literature will also develop students love and joy for reading.

Reading is an essential skill in our society.

It is my goal to help my students to become literate and ultimately productive members in society. The Scholastic Leveled Books will be a vital source in helping my students achieve their reading goals. Make a difference in their lives and in their future!
