My Students

Latin is not dead. It is very much alive in our rural high school.

My students aspire to be doctors, lawyers, biologists, nurses, linguists, and veterinarians among many other occupations.

Unfortunately, most of them come from modest income, working families who may struggle financially to send them to college. Our school provides these students with the opportunity to learn Latin, a language that will help them improve their vocabulary and grammar skills, better preparing them for their future careers. However, as school funding diminishes, special programs, such as this one, receive fewer resources.

My Project

A Latin dictionary is an essential tool for language study. Most textbooks have abridged vocabulary sections limiting students' potential to create their own sentences and stories. Providing each student with a dictionary increases the possibility of more actively engaging the students in learning relevant to their own world. Instead of endless translation of texts, students can create their own works.

Dictionaries are a necessity without which language learning cannot take place.

These 20 dictionaries will be used throughout the school day by over 100 students pursuing an interest their cultural past hoping to improve their educational future.
