Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Excitement runs high when a student discovers words in a book have meaning. I want to empower my students to do this! Most of my students come from homes where English is the second language. They do not have anyone at home to help them develop their language or oral reading skills.

Our school is located in the inner-city of a very large school district.

We do not have the funds to buy supplemental materials for the students to use. The students come from homes where the family income is very low. Most of the parents do not read or speak English and can't help the children at home with reading or oral language skills needed for school. Our school works very hard as a team to try to supply materials for the students to use to help boost their academic learning.

My Project

Being emergent readers, they need a lot of practice! The 4 Tag Reading Systems and the supplemental books that I am requesting will allow my students many opportunities to practice language and reading skills by hearing and seeing the words of a book. The batteries and battery charger will allow us to keep the Tag Reader pen charged and ready to use. The Tag Reading System is a great tool because the students hold the pen and tap a word. The pen tells the student the word. The students can use the pen to read single words or the entire book. This is a great independent activity for the students to use at their own pace.

By your generosity the children in my classroom will improve their language and reading skills.

Student achievement tests scores will improve. They will also develop a love for reading and learning new things! Thank you in advance for considering our project and investing in the lives of my students.
