Arts Attack for Elementary Kids

My students need exposure and experience creating art and understanding the great artists. We need an art curriculum and prints to help guide them.

My Students

Art education has all but disappeared in many schools. We are committed to providing students with a rich art education. We understand that for many children, exposure to art allows students to shine. We believe in educating the "whole" child and this includes having a strong foundation in the arts.

Our students come from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.

Many families fall below the poverty line. Students are hard working and enjoy school. They work hard to be the best they can be. In turn, our staff works hard to provide all the children with a rich, comprehensive learning experience. The students love coming to school. Not only are they given a strong foundation in literacy and mathematics, but they also have access to science, technology and the arts.

My Project

Our staff is very committed to art education. Our school does not have an art teacher, so our classroom teachers are responsible for all art education. We hold an annual Art Night, where our school is transformed into a "gallery." All the students work hard to create a variety of pieces that are displayed throughout the school. There is such pride in the faces of the students and the families, as they see their work on display. Unfortunately it has been years since a comprehensive art curriculum was purchased. The curriculum that we do have is dated and no longer complete. We are eager for this new curriculum and know that it will be a great enhancement to the good work that is currently being done. This new curriculum will enable us to teach about the great art masters such as Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh, and M.C. Escher. They will also learn techniques that will allow them to become skilled artists. We are so excited to bring these new ideas to the students at our school!

With arts programs being cut throughout the country, it is so critical that we find ways to continue to offer arts education to our children in our schools.

All students benefit from arts education and all children deserve to have art as part of their formal education.
